The Maryland Natural History Consortium

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Maryland Natural History Consortium is to support the establishment of a natural history museum in the State of Maryland, to form a support network of organizations of diverse natural history disciplines, and to improve communication amongst these organizations.

Member organizations will meet on a regular basis to discuss current issues, form partnerships in education and conservation, and plan outreach activities. By working together, organizations will cut costs, increase visibility through newsletters and websites, and attract new members.

With the establishment of a natural history museum, member organizations will have access to meeting space, office equipment, and the museum’s collections. They will support the acquisition and conservation of collections, collect data, support educational activities, and provide expertise in conservation issues.

To see a list of organizations involved with the consortium, as well as information on their missions, membership levels, and programs, go to the Consortium section of our website.

Eligibility

Eligible organizations must: (1) have nonprofit status; (2) have as their primary role to educate the public in the fields of natural history, ecology, and/or conservation and; (3) serve the citizens of Maryland.

When your organization joins the consortium, you will receive access to our database so you may enter your organization's information and programs. We will also periodically arrange meetings focused on issues concerning our member organizations, or just to have fun.
