Join our team of moth-seeking volunteers and experts as we camp at the beautiful Green Ridge State Forest to observe moths, beetles, and other insects lured to our viewing area by an irresistible mercury vapor light. Green Ridge State Forest encompasses 46,560 acres in western Maryland and hosts a wide variety of native species that are unique to this part of the state.
We never know what we will find as the weather plays a huge role in the types and quantities of insects seen on any particular night. Tim and John will be there 2 evenings June 19 and 20 and will set up the lights on the evenings with favorable conditions (which may be both nights). It is also possible we will only set up lights for 1 of the 2 nights we will not know till a few days beforehand.
Once again, this activity is weather-dependent and will be canceled for severe storms or lightning.
This is an overnight Primitive Camping weekend. No restrooms or running water are available. Access to the site is via dirt roads in poor condition. It is recommended to have a vehicle that sits high, low riding vehicles may have a difficult time accessing the camp site. Arrive no later than 6:30 pm, so that you have time to set up your camp site.
We will send detailed directions to the location to those who register. Please register by July 18th so we can reserve Camp Sites.
