Maryland’s story begins more than a billion years ago, when the piece of Earth we call home sat near the South Pole. Join us for the Grand Opening of our newest exhibit, The Making of Maryland: 1 Billion Years and Counting, at the Maryland Museum of Natural Sciences. Let’s follow Maryland’s extraordinary journey through tectonic collisions, rifting oceans, asteroid impacts, and rising mountains, and the evolution of life from single‑celled organisms to dinosaurs to us.
You’ll walk through a mountain, see rocks from the Moon, and discover how scientists read Earth’s longest storybook through the rocks and fossils beneath our feet. It’s an exciting, hands‑on exploration of Maryland’s deep past and how our landscape came to be.
