Field Trips

Start your New Year off outside with NHSM! Join Naturalist Charlie Davis on an exploratory hike around the Bunker Hill section of the Gunpowder Falls State Park.

The group will be small so that the pace can be leisurely and full of shared observations. Rather than distance as an objective, this hike will focus on time spent outside exploring. We may be off-trail to examine some features. We won’t be rock-climbing, but it might include some steep woodland hillsides.

This time of year offers a view of the terrain that the trees obscure during other seasons. We’ll be exploring plants and other nature of winter in the lower Mingo Branch drainage–and perhaps will get a glimpse of a Pileated Woodpecker.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring whatever will make you comfortable in the cold such as hand warmers, tea, etc. Feel free to bring a water and a snack, as well as, a hand lens or binoculars if you have them.

*Meet up information will be provided with registration information.
