Herp Club June Meeting – Open to All

In April, the NHSM Herp Club explored the Banneker Park pond in search for herps. This was our first experience at this amazing natural and historical resource area located in Catonsville, Maryland. We liked it so much, we are heading back in June to conduct a herp-themed BioBlitz for the park. SAVE THE DATE – JUNE 26 (rain date June 27) from 2PM to 4PM.

A BioBlitz is an intense period of biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. While generating useful data for science and conservation, they are also an excuse for naturalists, scientists, and curious members of the public to meet in person in the great outdoors and are a lot of fun!

During this June 9th club meeting, we will learn more about the park, how to conduct a bioblitzt, and how we will be using inaturalist to capture and synthesize the data. Basically, we will be getting prepared so we can launch right into the Blitz on the 26th.

Are you fascinated with reptiles and amphibians? The Natural History Society of Maryland’s Herp Club promotes the proper husbandry, conservation, study, and appreciation of reptiles and amphibians. Meet fellow “Herpers”! Amateurs, professionals, and kids of all ages are welcome! Membership to NHSM required. (NHSM membership is $25 for individuals, $35 for families.)
