Debbie Saylor is an anthropologist/archaeologist, museum curator, educator, and historian with more than 20 years of experience in archaeology and the interpretation of Native American history and material culture in the Lower Susquehanna region. She serves as Curator of Indian Steps Museum and Blue Rock Heritage Center and is actively involved as Education Director with the Lower Susquehanna Archaeological Society, Chapter 28 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
Her work focuses on archaeological research, artifact identification, collections preservation, and public education, with a particular interest in the Native peoples who lived along the Susquehanna River for thousands of years. Through museum exhibits, archaeological projects, lectures, and educational programs, Debbie works to connect archaeological evidence with the stories of the people and communities who shaped Pennsylvania’s past.
Description of Presentation:
Video and slide presentation focusing on the material evidence left behind by prehistoric people of the Lower Susquehanna River Valley spanning 16,000 years ago to Contact Period of 1550 AD. Cultural analysis of survival techniques, social structure, changing environment and physical identification of artifacts left behind.
Introduction of various local organizations leading the way to preserve the past and the changing museum responsibilities of interpretations.
