Following the Footprints: 2026 National Fossil Day – Nature Connections

For the Family Nature Connection Open to the Public

National Fossil Day is a day to celebrate and learn about fossils, paleontology, and the history of life on Earth. It’s a day to promote scientific exploration, environmental stewardship, and fossil discovery.

The 2026 theme is “Following the Footprints”

At the Maryland Museum of Natural Sciences Nature Connection, we will highlight dinosaur footprints from our very own White Marsh, Maryland! These footprints were found by Ray and Sheila Stanford prior to the construction of the White Marsh Mall. They are on permanent display at the museum, but will be attended by special guest docents on this special day!

Event Features

  • special guest tour guides for permanent fossil displays in the museum
  • tracks from collections on temporary display
  • fossil craft
  • fossil learning stations – learn how fossils are made and how they are identified
  • free fossils for everyone!

The program is free, but for planning purposes, we ask that you RSVP.
