Clubs fossils Lectures & Workshops

The June 1st Fossil Club Meeting will be in-person only for a special hands-on event

Join us as we welcome summer and more importantly, SharkFest!

Take a dive into shark evolution then transition, into a hands-on, up close and personal look at a wide variety of fossils. You will learn about the different types of shark teeth and how to identify them. Scratch the surface of shark skin, from cartilage to dermal denticles. Then discuss and look at other parts of sharks, including vertebras.

Speaker notes: Our very own fossil club member, Tom Piscitelli will share specimens from the NHSM collections. Tom brings decades of fossil hunting experience and knowledge to share with us and he’s learning new things all the time!

This meeting is specifically designed to help folks interested in volunteering for SharkFest but is open to all members. If you or someone you know is interested in helping, Sign up to volunteer for SharkFest

Natural History Society of Maryland’s Fossil Club is a group of novice and more experienced collectors will meet to exchange knowledge and help with fossil identification, discuss fossil locations, as well as other fossil related topics. Monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at the Natural History Society of Maryland. Due to COVID, NHSM is opening up this club meeting to all. Non-members are asked to donate $5. If you are a fossil enthusiast, please consider joining (https://www.marylandnature.org/club-membership/). The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the fee you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible
