The state of Maryland’s Wildlife and Heritage Service, part of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, is working on updates to their native reptile and amphibian regulations. These regulations will help to address emerging threats including disease, illegal collection and trade, and population declines. Beth Schlimm, the State Herpetologist at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, ran a meeting in November to discuss changes to these regulations as well as the Captive Reptile and Amphibian Permit. Herp club leader Tom Scollins participated in the meeting and will be reporting to the club on how it went discussing any new regulations and permit changes as well as any updates on the issues threatening herps throughout the state. So come learn about how the state of Maryland is protecting our native herps through regulations. This is also the last meeting of 2025, and we would love to have your input on what programming you would like to see in 2026.
If you have a Captive Reptile and Amphibian Permit, this will be a good meeting for you to attend and get an idea of any changes to your permit. This meeting will be hybrid in person and on zoom, we encourage you to attend in person as this will be the last meeting of the year and there will be snacks. If you wish to participate via Zoom, you need to register to receive the link.
