Lep Club Plant Swap

Clubs For the Family Open to the Public

In the magical two weeks between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, many of our thoughts turn to gardening. This month’s Lep Club meeting is here for you in the nick of time! Join us to share lep eggs or caterpillars to add to fellow members’ collections or to help start new collections. Have spare or unwanted host or nectar plants? Bring them in to find them a new home! In addition, feel free to bring any books or other resources you’ve found helpful.

Come out and meet new members, get reacquainted with long-term members, and help one another unlock new lep achievements. If you’re thinking of getting into raising leps or curious about new species, our members can answer your questions.

Along with all that, we’ll also be joined by John Robinson, an NHSM volunteer with several decades of experience studying plant communities and the critters that inhabit them. An entertaining storyteller and raconteur, John will share anecdotes from his observations of the natural world.

This event will take place in person at 6908 Belair Rd; no Zoom link will be made available. You do not need to be a member to attend. For planning purposes, please RSVP. And if you would like to bring something to share, the NHSM Club Coordinator would love a heads up; you can email me at mfalk@marylandnature.org.

If you love butterflies and moths, consider joining the NHSM Lep Club. The Lep Club is made up of novice and expert lepidopterists who meet to exchange knowledge and support concerning habitat, threats, food sources, identification, and life cycle of butterflies and moths. Club meetings encourage a sharing of knowledge for the raising and breeding of moths and butterflies through hands-on lessons and guest speakers. Club members are also involved in outreach in the greater Baltimore community through educational programs and service projects. Most club meetings feature a guest speaker who shares their knowledge on a topic related to moths and butterflies. Meetings also include time to distribute caterpillars and eggs.
